Caramel French Toast

Caramel sauce prepared from light brown sugar, butter and light corn syrup on stovetop. Sauce is spread into baking dish and topped with French bread slices. Bread slices are topped with mixture of egg, milk, pure vanilla extract, and salt. Casserole is refrigerated overnight to absorb flavors and baked in hot oven until bread is light golden brown.

Ingredients -

1 cup firmly packed Light Brown Sugar
1 stick (1/2 cup) Butter
2 tablespoons Light Corn Syrup
1 pound French Bread, sliced about one inch thick
6 Large Eggs, beaten
1-1/2 cups Whole Milk
1 teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
1/4 teaspoon Salt

 
Preparation:

1. In small saucepan, combine light brown sugar, butter and light corn syrup.

2. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Stir constantly.

3. Spray a 13 x 9 x 2 inch-baking dish with cooking spray. Pour in the sugar mixture.

4. Fit French bread slices into baking dish.

5. In separate bowl, combine large eggs, milk, pure vanilla extract, and salt. Stir to combine.

6. Pour egg mixture over bread.

7. Cover baking dish and chill a minimum of eight hours.

8. Preheat oven to 350 F. Bake, uncovered for 45 minutes, or until lightly browned.

9. Slice into sections, invert and serve.

 



Making French Toast -
Basic French Toast
Add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract to your egg mixture to spice up your French toast. The result is a sophisticated flavor to your toast.
