Making French Toast -
Texas Toast
Since Texas toast is twice the thickness of ordinary bread, one slice of Texas French toast is generally enough to feed most people. Thick slices need more time soaking in the egg mixture to ensure the custard reaches the center of the bread. It will also require more time on the griddle for the center of the bread to thoroughly cook.

Bread Preferences
When making French toast, some people prefer thick slices of bread while others prefer slices on the thinner side. Bread should be cut between ½ to ¾ inches thick for optimum results. Bread thinner than ½ inch will become limp when fried, while bread thicker than ¾ inches is difficult to cook through and often has soggy, uncooked centers.
