Bread Choices
Bread choice is important in making perfect French toast. Thick bread with a heavy texture is less likely to fall apart after being dredged in the egg mixture than airy bread with large pores. Some popular choices are challah bread, potato bread or French bread. Cinnamon swirl or cinnamon raisin bread makes delicious French toast.

Savory Sandwich
French toast is not just a breakfast food. Monte Cristo sandwiches contain slices of ham, turkey and Swiss cheese. The sandwich is dipped in a milk and egg mixture and cooked on a griddle. The end result is a savory center encased in sweet, custardy French toast. Traditionally the sandwich is served with warm syrup for dipping.
